I haven’t celebrated Mother’s Day in 17 years.  But…I am here because she wanted me to be.  I am thankful for the gummie worms, matching clothes with my sister, with her sitting down once a week with me while going through chemo to watch My So-Called Life, for introducing me to red hair color, teaching me how to be financially independent of a man, to not giving up on having true love, for teaching me to journal, for my appreciation of coffee, for my Peaches and Creme Barbie, for my daily reminder calendar I still have, for taking me to church and telling me about her relationship with God, for the love of reading, and for being so patient when I was reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to her, for cheesecake moments, for pretty dresses, for acting like a lady, for ballgames, for Girl Scouts, for Carole King, for Blondie, for telling me not to watch Children of the Corn but I did anyway and got nightmares but she still held me, for Uncle Traveling Matt, for taking me to your college, for One Life to Live, for Banana Laffy Taffys, for liver and onions though it did not taste like chicken like someone said it would, for baby oil in my hair mistaken as shampoo, for nap times shared, for hand painted Easter baskets, for my Karokee machine, for my Cyndi Lauper/kitty costume, for homemade sugar cookies, for bunk beds, for the Air Force, for makeup, for handmade Christmas ornaments every year, for Mississippi Mud Cake, for chicken and dumplings, for Pat Benatar, for Debbie Gibson, for everything given to me while she was alive.  Thank you Mom.
